Terms & Conditions


1. Definitions

  • “HJE / we / us” – Harvey-James Electrical (sole trader).
     
  • “Client / you” – the person(s) or company requesting work.
     
  • “Work / Services” – electrical installation, inspection, testing, repair, or related tasks we agree to perform.
     
  • “Subcontractors” – qualified tradespeople we may engage to help deliver the work.
     

2. Quotations & Pricing

  • All quotes are fixed once accepted, unless you request alterations to the agreed specification or scope.
     
  • However, if we uncover hidden or dangerous electrical issues that cannot legally be left in place — e.g. unsafe wiring, damaged consumer units, missing earth bonding, or other faults that must be rectified under current safety regulations — we will advise you immediately and provide a separate quotation for the necessary remedial work before proceeding.
     
  • No work creating extra cost will be carried out without your approval of the revised price.
     
  • Quoted prices exclude remedial work for pre-existing faults unless we caused the fault.
     
  • Where we source and supply materials, a 10% procurement/handling charge applies.
     
  • Emergency or out-of-hours call-outs and fault finding are charged at our hourly rate (see “Call-outs” under Services).
     

3. Payment & Deposits

  • Small jobs (≤£300): payment due on completion.
     
  • Larger jobs: we may request a deposit to cover materials or staged payments for multi-day work / subcontractors.
     
  • Staged payments and deposit amounts will be set out clearly in your quote or invoice before work begins.
     
  • Work may be paused if agreed staged payments are not made when due. This will only occur if previously agreed milestone payments aren’t received.
     
  • We do not charge interest on late payments but ask that invoices are settled promptly.
     

4. Access, Safety & Scheduling

  • You must provide safe, reasonable access to the property at agreed times.
     
  • We may stop or refuse work if conditions are unsafe — including rodent infestations, pest activity, or free-roaming snakes. (Normal domestic pets are fine.)
     
  • Scheduling disclaimer: While we aim to keep all appointments, occasional rescheduling may be required due to other professional commitments. We’ll give as much notice as possible.
     
  • If other trades or access restrictions delay work, we will work with you to re-schedule without additional charge.
     

5. Certification & Compliance

  • All electrical work complies with BS 7671 Wiring Regulations and Part P where required.
     
  • We will issue Electrical Installation Certificates (EIC), Minor Works Certificates (MWC), or Electrical Installation Condition Reports (EICR) as applicable.
     

6. Liability & Insurance

  • We hold Public Liability insurance (£X limit).
     
  • Professional Indemnity cover is not included unless specifically stated in writing. (Confirm or update once you’ve decided if you’re adding this cover.)
     
  • We are not liable for indirect or consequential loss (e.g., loss of earnings, business interruption).
     

7. Subcontractors

  • We may engage qualified subcontractors when needed. They will hold appropriate insurance and qualifications.
     
  • We are not responsible for delays or costs caused by other trades not under our control.
     

8. Cancellations & Rescheduling

  • No cancellation fees apply, but please give at least 48 hours’ notice where possible so we can manage our schedule effectively.
     
  • If unforeseen events (e.g., illness, supply issues, emergency jobs) require us to reschedule, we will inform you promptly and agree a new date.
     

9. Photography & Filming

  • We may take photographs or short video clips of our work for record keeping, safety compliance, and marketing/content purposes.
     
  • Images will not include personal or sensitive details (e.g., faces, private documents).
     
  • If you do not wish for any photographs or video to be used for marketing or shared publicly, please let us know before or during the job and we will respect your wishes and delete any such files.
     

10. Complaints & Disputes

  • Notify us in writing within 14 days of completion if you are dissatisfied.
     
  • We aim to resolve issues promptly and professionally.
     

11. Governing Law

  • These terms are governed by the laws of England & Wales.
